Lincoln Cemetery Expands Free Cremation Placement to Monthly Offering After Overwhelming Response

More than 50 families attended the oversubscribed National Cremation Placement Day event in Atlanta

ATLANTA, Oct. 17, 2026 — Following the overwhelming success of its National Cremation Placement Day event, Lincoln Cemetery announced that it will continue offering free permanent placement of cremated remains every month, giving more families a dignified place to lay their loved ones to rest.

More than 50 families attended the oversubscribed event on Saturday, October 17.

“The response from our community was overwhelming,” said Raymond Burr, chief operating officer of Lincoln Cemetery. “We believe every family should have access to a dignified, permanent place for their loved one’s cremated remains. The level of interest made it clear that this opportunity needs to be available more than once a year. That is why we are continuing the free placement offering every month at Lincoln.”

“For a long time, our family didn’t know what to do with my uncle Jerome Stroud’s cremated remains, and I’m just so grateful to Lincoln Cemetery for offering a free place to lay him to rest,” said Ms. Johnson, whose family participated in the event.

The monthly offering will help families who have kept a loved one’s ashes at home and are ready to arrange a permanent resting place. Placement in a cemetery gives families somewhere to visit and remember, while helping ensure that cremated remains are cared for beyond the lifetime of the person currently keeping them.

Families interested in the monthly offering should contact Lincoln Cemetery to learn about upcoming dates, confirm eligibility and complete arrangements in advance.
