Lincoln Cemetery
Lincoln Cemetery has been serving Atlanta since 1925. For a century, we have strived to be
the very best at honoring our community.
Our history is rich, and our heritage is unmatched… but did you know that it all started with a famous boxer?
Founding
The original founder of Lincoln Cemetery was Theodore "Tiger” Flowers. Nicknamed, "the Georgia Deacon", Tiger rose to prominence in the early 20th century by becoming the first African-American World Middleweight Boxing Champion. Tiger lived close to Lincoln in a house near Simpson Road, now Joseph E Boone Blvd. Since Tiger’s early investment in Lincoln, the cemetery has cultivated an impeccable reputation as Atlanta’s premier cemetery and expanded its grounds to encompass over 100 acres.
Heritage
Lincoln’s first major land expansion to fulfill the growing needs of the community was with the Lincoln Country Club – the first African American country club in the United States. Lincoln Country Club was a nine-hole golf course that also featured dinner, dancing, a private bar, and a small casino.
Growth & Expansion
Since the 1960s, Lincoln has been owned by the same family. Throughout the years, the Sawyer / Frost family also acquired other cemeteries owned under the Lincoln Memorial Group (LMG) umbrella. In addition to Lincoln Cemetery, LMG owns and operates Washington Memorial Park, Dawn Memorial Gardens and Monte Vista (“Lincoln on the Hill”).
Iconic Beauty
Over the many years, all of LMG’s cemeteries have become synonymous with its stunning memorial park style, its iconic mid-century modern chapel buildings, and community mausoleums.
Eternal Legacy
Lincoln Memorial Group’s cemeteries today are the final resting place to hundreds of thousands of people representing all religions, cultures, and walks of life, and our heritage continues to grow richer. Now third-generation family-owned, the company is poised to thrive further, embarking on its next chapter of beautification and growth.
Lincoln Memorial Group
Lincoln Cemetery is part of the Lincoln Memorial Group, which owns and operates historic Washington Memorial Gardens, Dawn Memorial Park and Monte Vista Biblical Gardens. Our cemeteries span west to east of Atlanta, and we would be honored to serve you at any of these locations. Click below to learn more about each cemetery.
